Tacoma Older LGBT's Solidarity Statement on #Black Lives Matter
Tacoma Older LGBT (TOLGBT) are in solidarity with the Black community here in Pierce County, our home state of Washington, and nationwide. Our community understands discrimination, violence and the fight for equity and TOLGBT acknowledges the brutality and racism perpetrated against people of color. We are deeply saddened by the murder of black people, including George Floyd, Manuel Ellis, Tony McDade, Breonna Taylor, and many others, at the hands of law enforcement. And disheartened by the pervasive race-based injustices occurring locally and across the nation. We are called to be in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and all struggles to fight racism, to ensure that the killing of every black person receives an impartial and thorough investigation, and to call attention to the systemic culture of hate and discrimination in the United States.
TOLGBT believes in the importance of this issue, to support work already being done in our community we will make a donation to the Tacoma Urban League. Their mission is to assist African Americans and other under-served urban residents in the achievement of social equality and economic independence.
